  2. 4 tbsp tur dal
  3. as required Water less than usual
  4. For tempering the dal-
  5. 2 tbsp ghee
  6. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  8. 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  9. For Dry spices for the dal-
  10. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  12. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  13. 1/2 tsp coriander seeds powder
  14. Other ingredients-
  15. to taste Salt
  16. 2 tbsp jaggery
  17. For rice-
  18. 1 &1/2 cup rice
  19. to taste Salt
  20. as required Water
  21. For kadhi:
  22. 1 cup curd
  23. 2 tbsp chickpea flour
  24. 2 cups water
  25. to taste Salt
  26. 2-3 tbsp jaggery
  27. For tempering the kadhi-
  28. 2 tbsp groundnut oil
  29. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  30. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  31. 5-6 whole black pepper corns
  32. 3-4 cloves
  33. 2 green chillies
  34. 7-9 curry leaves
  35. 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  36. 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions to make to make Lachko dal, rice and kadhi

  1. For lachko dal: Wash the dal 3 times and pressure cook (three whistles and 5 minutes on low flame) with minimal water.
  2. Transfer the dal in a kadhai add 1 tbsp water and jaggery.
  3. In a tempering vessel take ghee and heat it. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and coriander seeds to it.
  4. Add all the dry spices when mustard seeds start crackling.
  5. Add salt to it and mix well.
  6. Cook for about 5 minutes till the dal becomes thick.
  7. For rice: Wash the rice 3 times and add water. Pressure cook the rice (2 whistles and 5 minutes on low flame).
  8. For kadhi: In a vessel take curd and chickpea flour and mix well.
  9. Add water, salt and jaggery to it and mix well. Keep this mixture on gas and heat it.
  10. While the curd mixture is being heated take a tempering vessel and add oil, heat it.
  11. Add all the ingredients for tempering, after mustard seeds start crackling add asafoetida and add it to curd mixture.
  12. Heat it till one or two boils, switch off the gas and add chopped cilantro.
  13. Serve the rice with lachko dal and kadhi.
